As we sit there feeling sour over the missed promotion, the deal that went awry, the poor service given, the bitchy people around us, a picture like this really puts everything back into perspective

This haunting picture was taken during the 1994 Sudanese Famine. It shows a girl who collapsed on her way to the United Nations Feeding Station. The vulture (being a scavenger) is waiting for the child to die so that it can feed on her. No one knows what happened to the child
The photographer who took the picture committed suicide 3 months later because of depression.
Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.” (Hindu Prince Gautama Siddharta, otherwise known as Buddha, 563-483 B.C.)
Sometimes we overestimate what we can do in a year and underestimate what we can do in a decade!
Been spending my Saturday afternoons watching the Chinese series about my role model, Gou Jian, the last of the Five Great OverLords in the Zhou Dynasty.
The story is about the King of Yue called Gou Jian who was defeated in a war against its larger neighbour, the Wu kingdom. After the defeat, he could have ended his life and allowed his kingdom to be annexed by the victors and just basically screw up his life and just clubbed his life away.
Instead he chose the tougher road, that road was to surrender and be a slave of the King of Wu in order to preserve his kingdom.
Reduced to a personal slave, Gou Jian was enslaved for 3 years before he managed to convince the Wu King of his docility and allowed to return to his kingdom.
Even when he returned to his kingdom, Goujian did not go back and enjoy the riches as a king, but instead slept on sticks and eating food suited for peasants, as well as forcing himself to taste gall. This way, he could remember his humiliations while serving under the State of Wu and strengthen his resolve and perseverence to revive his kingdom.
There is how a Chinese idiom, 卧薪尝胆"Wo Xin Chang Dan" (literally meaning "sleeping on sticks and tasting gall"), came about because of this and his perseverance to revive his kingdom.
Finally, about 10 years later, Gou Jian managed to rebuild and strengthen his kingdom and in the end managed to successfully attack and take over the state of Wu and that was how he became the last of the Five Great OverLords in the Zhou Dynasty.
XiaoQiang, just wanna add, Sometimes we overestimate what we can do in a year and underestimate what we can do in a decade! Where were we a decade ago and where are we gonna be in a decade’s time? Think about it!
Why Why Why Xiaoqiang?
Yet again, someone asked me why i gave myself a nick called XiaoQiang which also means a cockroach. Wanted to check my IC some more to see if i am a li xiaoqiang or a li xiaolong.
Anyway, i believe we attach ourselves to nicks/names which we can see ourselves in. So do i see myself as a creepy crawlie or as a huggable roach? Actually neither lor.
XiaoQiangs are perhaps the true survivors on our planet. Xiaoqiangs have been around since the time of the giant dinosaurs millions of years back, way before mankind appeared to poke a hole in the ozone layer. Xiaoqiangs are also expected to survive a nuclear holocaust should mankind choose to bomb each other silly. Survivors of the highest level!
So that is why I chose XiaoQiang as a nick some time back when I was going through a tough patch. It was to rally myself up to make it thru some really bad times. And I kinda found it very comfortable and kept it lor.
Maybe I should start observing some Flying XiaoQiang actions and incorporate it into some dance move. Something like the gongfu masters who observe cats, praying mantis, eagles and make it into gongfu moves.
What should I call the moves? Hmmm .. Maybe call it "Flying XiaoQiang jump over the wall"?

On Spinning
When Spinning it is important to Spot so that you will not spin out of control. In life, it is important to focus on specific targets so that we will not lose sight of where we are heading.
Cumbia Step
Sometimes in life, one needs to take a cumbia step and see where we are heading.
SideStep
If we are unsure where we are heading and we cannot retreat, a sidestep will do until the situation makes itself clear.
Most importantly, remember the principle of quick quick slow. Always slow down after a couple of quicks. This will help ensure we keep our balance in life.
XiaoQiang would just like to add. So many lame philosophies for what?
Got Food Juz Eat! Got Music Juz dance! Got work,Juz do…..
We are from XiaoQiang International Headhunters.
Our Client, Sexy Buaya Club(SBC) Pte Ltd is looking for suitably qualified candidates to fill the undermentioned positions. The location of work will be at the mythological paradise called USQtopia.
Successful candidates will be sent to attend a Certified Buaya course where you will understand that a buaya is just another Gender Neutral term that can mean “attracting the attention of the opposite sex.”. Please note that a Certified Buaya generally has positive connotations.
Base salary before commission and incentives starts from USD100,000 per annum.
The positions available and the key skills required are as follows :
1) Strategic Buaya : The successful candidate is expected to be able to pretend to play pool and drink alcohol while lying in wait for an opportunity to exercise buaya powers. Dancing skills, though useful, is not crucial. Ability to create a cuddly nickname would be useful
2) The Sexually Confused Buaya : The successful candidate has to be able to adopt a sexually confusing sexual profile to project a level of unattainablity. This will help keep the opposite sex curious so that they will find an opportunity to unlock his/her sexual cherry.
3) The Dance-Talker Buaya : The successful candidate is expected to have average dancing skills but complements or worsens it by making the dancefloor become a conversation venue. Critical to this position is the ability to NOT let the saliva and sweat fly all over the place while talking and dancing at the same time.
4) The Fresh Meat Buaya : Always alert to any fresh meat appearing in the scene, the successful candidate has to have keen interest in targeting fresh meat in the scene. Some charisma and a sense of subtlety would be crucial to be effective in this role.

The Trainer Buaya : The successful candidate(male preferred) is expected to go around offering to teach the ladies to dance as a method to buaya. Experience in actual teaching is not necessary, Actual dance skills are also unnecessary. A false belief in his dancing skills will be critical for this position.
9) The Lurker Buaya: The successful candidate should have the ability to lurk around waiting for any available target and make a move once the target is available. The candidate would be required to blend into the furniture if necessary and jump out of nowhere when needed.
10) The “Act like not buaya” Buaya : The successful candidate is expected to pretend and assert he is not a buaya when in fact he is the biggest one around. A false belief that others think he is not a buaya is critical for this position. Fresh Graduates are welcomed as this is an entry level position.

Poetic XiaoQiang?
Poem 1
Yes I dance
And drink and sing,
Merry it may seem
Am i indeed, a happy Roach?
Will I live
Will I die?
With some baygon
Will I be gone?
Poem 2(if you can call this poetry)
For the heart can never ache, if we have never loved
For the soul can never soar, if we have never fell
Just as the Bird can never land, if it has no legs
and the roach does not always fly, even if it has wings.
(Edited) From the annals anals anus collection of XiaoQiang Lame Poetry
I was reading a fellow blogger’s post about relationship and all, and that set me thinking.
(IMHO) In my humble opinion, every relationship is a cycle. In the beginning, it starts with several “magic moments” with your partner. You look forward to the call, you wanted your partner and you felt great to be wanted, you trust and were trusted. It was some intense connection called “love”. It was spontaneous.
Falling in love was easy, hey then again, falling in anything is easy. I put banana skins in front of you and then you know lah.
Anyway, after a few /months/years, for some people maybe after a few days/weeks, the magical euphoria fades. It is but a natural cycle of every relationship. The calls are now disruptive, sometimes you wonder if you are still wanted and sometimes being wanted is such an irritation. You wonder if you are trusted and sometimes you just dun really wanna know.
Notice the huge difference between the beginning stage filled with magic moments and the latter stage with, at times, irritable moments.
This is when the relationship starts to break down and you may just blame your partner for not “doing enough” and start looking elsewhere. Here’s the real deal, the key to a relationship lies in sustaining it and it starts by looking not elsewhere but into the relationship itself.
(IMHO) In my humble opinion, the key to SUSTAINING a relationship is not so much the chemistry or the physics or even the sex, it is learning to sustain the love for the person you found.
At this point, I am reminded of a conversation I had with an old friend. At the opposite end of the spectrum, we have seen far too many people stuck in a relationship which has long past its sustainability stage and are just clinging on to it. It takes heck of a lot of courage to end some relationships even though it is no longer positive.
So how do we tell the difference? How do we know if we should sustain the love for our partner in a relationship or muster the courage to close the chapter and move on? Well, if I only had that wisdom to know the difference……………..
XiaoQiang just wanna say, life will always throw banana skins after banana skins, just dun step on it. And Just dance like no one is watching, it’s Friday!

Musings of the Past
What if, by chance, you found a silver key to a door. To a door that can unlock a path into your past.
Would you keep the key?
What if the path allows you to undo all your past wrongs, unwrite all your past regrets, unravel all your past pains
Would you treasure the key?
What if by undoing the past, you no longer love the ones you love now, you no longer have the friends you have now and you no longer treasure what you treasure now.
Would you still be you?
Would the past remain behind the door?.
Musings of the Future
What if you were shopping round Sim Lim Square and a salesman in a dark suit and dark shades stepped up and offered you a thumbdrive.
“This thumbdrive carries all detailed information of your future. Every single instance, every single detail is stored in this thumbdrive. You would know your whole future.”
Now what if he offers to sell it to you and he does remind that the future cannot be changed even if you knew in advance?
Would you buy?
What if you bought it and found out you would lose all your loved ones, one by one, and eventually you would die alone.
Would you regret buying?
What if you bought it and found out you never had the chance to say goodbye to your loved ones becuz you passed on before your time.
Would you ask for a refund?
What if we know our future and yet may never be ready to accept it?
Carpe Diem, Memento Mori!
What if you were walking along a second hand store at Bras Basah and you came across a used little brown book.
What if the title has the words "Happiness" and it is not a Chinese Wedding Invite? Would you be interested to browse?
What if you browse through it and it tells you only in the present can we find our own utopia? Would you still live in the past?
What if the book suggests only in the present can we find our own happiness? Would you still worry about the future?
What if the book ends with a line that says :
"Carpe Diem, Memento mori"
(Seize the day, for Remember we are mortal!)
