In this mortal world, what entity is love

May 9th, 2007 by bohemianreturns

“I can bear to die, I cannot bear to leave her” – The short-lived poet Keats wrote this about his love as he neared his end. Does love really transcend death?

Like the wandering Condor Hero wondered “in this mortal world, what entity is love” or as XiaoQiang the pet cockroach asked me the other day - Simi is this thing called love?

So I told XiaoQiang. Love is this positive connection to trust and to be trusted, to want and to be wanted. It is an intense connection which makes us feel alive, feel good, feel real and feel fuzzy fuzzy warm warm.

It is sad if we numbed the desire for the connection.

Have I loved before? I believe I did.

Will I love again? I know I will.

Just dance like no one is watching, love like you have never been hurt .Life is a one-way ticket, no cheat code, no replays.( I really really love this line) .

A life lived in resigned desperation is a life not lived.

April 15th, 2007 by bohemianreturns

A  life lived in resigned desperation is a life not lived.

Just how so to achieve a level of resigned desperation? 10 easy ways to do it

1) Dun risk anything because of the fear of failure. Heck, dun risk anything at all. Risk is a 4 letter bad word!

2) Remind yourself 3 times daily about those once upon a time “glorious days” or “happier times” that was a long time ago, maybe when policeman were still wearing shorts.

3) Procrastinate everything and delay starting anything if possible

4) Shut people out .Put them down if you have to.

5) Ignore the kindness you have received and be focused on petty grudges, the pettier the better.

6) Be passive and negative. Dun do anything and wait for things to happen and if things dun happen for you and go wrong, blame it on others, just find someone to blame…..

7) Start your mental sentences with ‘I can’t”.

8) Keep all bad habits and bad prejudices.

9) Do care about how others think about you, especially the opinions of those people who dun matter.

And most importantly, no matter what STAY IN YOUR COMFORT ZONE and dun try anything new!

So there you go, a life of resigned desperation is designed for easy adaptation by anyone with combined IQ and EQ score of 10 and above.

Me?
I will try my level best to just dance like no one is watching, sing like no one is listening, love like I have never been hurt and live life like heaven is on earth…. It’s a one-way ticket.

I have lived a long life and had many worries, most of which never happened.

I have lived a long life and had many worries, most of which never happened. -Mark Twain

Xiaoqiang_16Worries is just a about the major energy sapper in our existence. It drains us, reduces us, traps us. Our anxieties even control us. How much time was spent worrying about things that never happened?? How much was given up to accommodate an anxiety that never happened?

Worrying about an event has never made it less likely to happen, neither has it made it less painful when it happens… so why do we even bother?

XiaoQiang just wanna tell me that i should make list of what worries me in Microsoft word, make plans if these worries do happen, and then save it some folder (which I probably cannot find later). Then forget about it and relac.

Bambam_3 Dance like no one is watching. Sing like no one is listening. Love like you’ve never been hurt and live life like it’s heaven on Earth. No replay, no cheat code, it is a one way ticket.

And so the Sith shall live ………

Life has to be understood backward… but it has to be lived forward.

March 19th, 2007 by bohemianreturns

Life has to be understood backward… but it has to be lived forward.

I could do well to remember this quote when I look back at some personal hell and crisis.

I was an avid amateur fish rearing enthusiast when I was young.  As the water gets dirty and cloudy or when the fish grows too big, we have to change the water and/or the tank. The thing is that whenever I try to use the fish net or my hand to take the fish out of the tank, they will swim like crazy to avoid, making the tank even dirtier as the shit gets stirred by the frentic actions. Talk about shit stirring.

Then, when I finally managed to get them on the small fish net or my hand, the fishes will struggle and at times they managed to get out of my grasp only to land on the floor, traumatizing themselves further and possibly exposing themselves to greater risk. And all I wanted to do was to move them to a better, cleaner, tank. Yet their struggle put them thru trauma and stress which was totally unnecessary.

Often, human beings are the same.  We struggle thru what we think is a personal hell or crisis without realizing that perhaps a greater power might just be moving us away from a dirty and cloudy tank into a better, cleaner tank.

When we do look back, the “crisis or personal hell” is sometimes a good thing and how we have grown. I begin to understand life better and the dots begin to connect.

Let the dark night pass. Such is the true power of the Sith.

Xiaoqiang_14XiaoQiang the pet cockroach just wanna say that although life can be understood backward and it can to be left lived forward, the reverse is not true.  Please do not live life backwards, it’s not healthy.

The Cycle of Beer

March 18th, 2007 by bohemianreturns

Xiaoqiang_11

XiaoQiang the pet cockroach and his theory on the cycle of beer

After decades in the pugilistic world, I have come to note certain truisms about beer/alcohol and its cycle.

Phase 1 : You head down for the regular drinking hole for a short drink before promising yourself you would head home early cuz you have to work tomorrow.  You have already promised yourself not to drink too much after the last time.

Phase 2 : While in the pub, a couple of frens show up and you guys go for a few more rounds.  You tell the guys that you have something on tomorrow so you will still drink but in moderation.  You expect to leave about 10pm.

In the meantime, you notice the average looking gal in the corner of the bar.

Phase 3 : It is about 12.30am and everyone in the pub is now your fren. You know you should be tucked in bed now for your impt meeting tomorrow but what the heck, you could still go back home at about 3am when the pub closes. 5 hours of sleep is enough for a healthy adult like yourself.

You notice the same gal in the corner of the bar is still around but now you think she looks amazingly gorgeous. Night vision is sinking in.

Phase 4 : It is coming to 3am and you are slurring.  You notice the same gal in the corner of the bar is leaving with her frens but now you think she looks like a supermodel and you promise yourself you would chat her next time when you have a chance.

One of your frens suggest another place that close much later and away you go. The appointment tomorrow? Never mind, no need to sleep, you could just take a shower, have a change of clothes and head down to office right away.  No one will notice anyway! Who knows, maybe the gal in the corner might be there too…..

Phase 5: It is now morning and your head is now throbbing.  You are in no state for the appointment later and you promise yourself “ I will never do this again!”

Return to Phase 1

And so the cycle continues

Year of the Pig?

February 22nd, 2007 by bohemianreturns

Xiaoqiang_13

Fact : Did u know a pig’s orgasm lasts 30 minutes.

XiaoQiang : Lucky Pig!!!

Fact : Did u know a cockroach will live nine days without its head before it
starves to death.

XiaoQiang : 30 minutes… lucky pig.dun play play!! How many seconds does a cockroach have??

Fact : Did u know male bats have the highest rate of homosexuality of any mammal

XiaoQiang : Who cares about the bat, can someone tell me about the pig?  I’m still wondering about the pig. Was it a gay pig?

Fact : Did u know a man’s beard grows fastest when he anticipates sex.

XiaoQiang : Maybe I should be a pig in my next life, dun mind being a pig with beard

Fact : Did u know humans and dolphins are the only species that have sex for
pleasure.

XiaoQiang : What about the pig?? 30 minutes of pain??? Cannot be the pig do "it" for 30 minutes of pain, right???….

Anyone else wanna be a pig?

Is this the reason why the pig is the last animal in the zodiac? Cuz he was the last to ………..er…….. come?

California dreaming….

February 12th, 2007 by bohemianreturns

Disclaimer : "The following post has been made under the hypnotic influence of repeatedly playing the song "california dreaming" sung by the momma and the papas."

http://girlywhirlyclm.imeem.com/music/42nTD1XQ/california_dreaming/

Been somewhat rudderless of late, then i happen to chance upon a comment made by a fellow traveller in this journey we called life.  What the fellow traveller said was true but it one of the terms used which set me thinking.

It was the term "moderation".  Throughout my life, this term constantly reappears, sometimes as a bad dream yet sometimes as a rescue buoy.

A childhood playmate once mentioned when we were 18 that i had an non-moderate personality, seldom taking or doing things in moderation.  He supposedly predicted that i will either fail miserably or i will succeed in unexpected ways.

But then again, as a youth blessed with the invulnerablity of inexperience, no-holds-barred was sometimes the most effective teacher.  IF you believe in something, go all out, i would say!

Also when i was around 18 or 19, my israeli trained encik in the army commented that i would have ended up as those bohemian-like war protesting hippies if i was born earlier.  Since then, I just love imagining myself going "hell no, we wont go" in some idealistic war protest waving placards and going flower power into the barrel of a gun. "if something is wrong then speak up, i would say!"

Then, suddenly the busy years went rushing by. Work work work, play play play, club club club…….

The invulnerablity of youth slowly was replaced by the predictablity of experience and the practice of moderation.

It was comfortable at times but hardly fulfilling.  Like a rescue bouy in the middle of the blue ocean of life, it was sufficient but hardly secure cuz "moderation" had a good fren and that fren’s name is "mediocrity".

Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

The Sith may still return.

Xiaoqiang_10 XiaoQiang just finished watching Seinfeld rerun and was in stitches when he heard George saying the following "Borrowing Money is like having sex……….. it completely changes the relationship"
